Topaz Jones



 

I create artworks from my whole being, expressions that reflect my 
story and my existence as an Indigenous woman in modern times. It is for this reason I consider myself a contemporary artist, pushing my artwork forward while including and appreciating my culture and traditions.

Topaz Jones is a multidisciplinary artist working in painting, sculpture, basketry, beadwork, and textiles. Jones was born in Portland, Oregon and spent her whole youth moving around the Pacific Northwest and the Great Basin. She is enrolled Western Shoshone with the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes of Duck Valley and has descendancy ties with the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and Lummi Nation. Jones moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico to attend the Institute of American Indian Arts, where she earned a BFA in Studio Arts in 2011 and a certificate in Museum Studies in 2016. During her time in college and proceeding, Jones has had many accomplishments in her artistic career such as exhibiting with the C.N. Gorman Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA), illustrating and writing for Benchmark Publishing, and participating in SWAIA Indian Market. She currently lives and creates with her family in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
